And not just any type of book, but a full blown Fabio-on-the-cover romance novel. My goal was simple: Hold onto your butts. Time to get in it. First, romance is one of the most popular Kindle categories, so I knew the market size was big.
Third, and most important, I thought it was funny. I never planned on doing much actual writing. Plus, most Kindle Gold Rushers use ghostwriters, which take longer than a week to find.
My first attempt was artfully combining a public domain romance novel from with a modern-day erotica. That came to an end fast when the story started jumping from feeding the family livestock to getting handjobs under high school bleachers.
Plan B was more straightforward: In other words, shameless plagiarism for the sake of science with little to no remorse. Thankfully, the internet exists.
It took only 10 minutes of searching to find my golden goose: According to our insider, the most popular romance novels involve billionaires, military men, or jungle fever. It only took a couple hours to copy and paste the 60, words into a page Microsoft Word document. I was ready to move on to the title and cover image.

Write a ton of short stories, then make them sell. A good place to get some good general info and advice on self-publishing is Joe Konrath's A Newbie's Guide to Publishing, but there are also plenty of other blogs out there on the same subject.

To sell books on Amazon, first create a seller account. Change a previous listing to "Fulfilled by Amazon." Follow the steps to create a seller account and to list a book for sale as usual.
